Mike married Cal in 2001, and they now live together in Norton-on-Derwent, with their dog and cat!
Mike studied his Degree in Politics and Economics at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He is a Malton Town Councillor, a Trustee of Ryedale Citizens Advice Bureau and Next Steps Mental Health Resource Centre.
Mike serves as a deacon at Malton Baptist Church and has worked in the National Health Service. More recently he worked undertaking Legal Aid casework before becoming a local Citizens Advice Bureau Manager.
Mike is the Director of Caring for Business Ltd and was the Director of York and District Mind for three years, untill the end of March 2011. He is passionate about making things better for the community. A founding Trustee of North Yorkshire and York Forum, the umbrella body for the local voluntary and community sector. He is also Vice President of North Yorkshire Credit Union which he helped create by leading the expansion of York Credit Union as President for 2 years before stepping down in March 2010. Mike believes that poverty and accessible finance are critically important issues to improve the quality of life for everyone in our community. Mike is a Member of the Institute of Directors, through them in July 2011 he was awarded a Certificate in Company Direction with Distinction.
He served as a school governor for many years on the Wolds, as he is a strong supporter of education, stepping down in July 2011. Mike is also Chairman of Thirsk and Malton Liberal Democrats, which he does because he wants to help get a better deal for local residents than they are getting at the moment.
Mike enjoys 1980's music and nights out dancing, he is interested in art and crafts and supporting local events.
